Incomplete beauty

 Love - it does exists,

Love- it forces you to live,

Love-it is equal to the life, when it does exists,

Love- is mine and im forever young while i feel it.

What is soul without beauty,

What is beauty without a soul,

You cant control it outside,

It is partly incomplete,

When it is empty, seems like it id full of a beauty,

In this way of getting completed, fully,

Beauty,young and soul

All of them will get completed,

Because ir does exists,we can meet with it,

If we want it,at that time it will not be incomplete.

Because it does exists,

              it does absents,

it does forces you to exist,

And your forever young when you have it.

                                        when you look for it.

Which part is wild,

Which one is real,and natural,

No one explained,

No one understood,

In this life even heart does stood incomplete,

But when beauty does exists,in you

In a natural way,through love,

You are young, and it's not a joke, while you have it

                                                     while you want it,

                                                     while you look for it.

You are in love and its not a joke, while you feel it,

                                                     while you look for it,

while you does exist through it.

You are alive and it's not a joke, while you feel a life in it.

 Love - it does exists,

Love- it forces you to live,

Love-it is equal to the life, when it does exists,

Love- is mine and im forever young while i feel it.

Not a beauty when its lonely,

Not a beauty when its white,

No color at all in it in order to celebrate,

No pleasure to satisfy it,in order to survive,

Not a blessing, when its a pain, and it turned into black to be.

But when you are near that's a beauty,

But when you are, that's fully completing,

And that's why it does exists, and thats how it does exists,

And that's why it forces you to survive,to be.

6 Attar of Nishapur Poems — Examples of Attar’s Poetry in Farsi and English

Attar of Nishapur is renowned for his poetic genius and ability to convey complex spiritual and philosophical ideas through verse. Here are 6 examples of Attar’s work that demonstrate his poetic skills:

My heart and soul have grown weary of life without you.

O ye who are my heart and soul, you are everything to me.

I’m waiting for you to gaze at my heart.

Your eye will increase the value of my life!

You are the one you are seeking!

You desire nothing more than yourself!

Then the distance between you and the loss you suffered is not great!

The essence of love is known by the heart.

The mind is ignorant about love.

Love is inexpressible in words.

In the world of words, love is not!

My heart is burning, Cupbearer, oh

Where are you, cupbearer? Arrive soon

I’m still burning, cupbearer.

Because I long to see your face!

Oh, my heart is filled with suffering; look at it

Since you’ve discovered my hidden secret

Because of my longing to see you, I wept days and nights

It is only you who can cure my eyes full of tears!

A burning candle you are, and the world is bright with you

A moth I am, flying around you tonight

Falling at your feet like a moth

Don’t raise your flame so high tonight

My life is brief like a candle

It is about to end soon

How I long for you to look at me?

These examples of Attar’s poetry provide a mere glimpse into the depth and beauty of his work. His poetry continues to inspire and move readers even centuries after it was written.

Attar of Nishapur was a 12th-century Persian poet, mystic, and philosopher whose works have had an immense impact on Persian literature and beyond. His poetry often deals with themes related to love, spirituality, and human nature and has been read for centuries around the world.

In this blog post, we will briefly overview Attar of Nishapur’s life and background, analyze his major works and themes, and emphasize the significance of his poetry. We’ll also go over 6 examples of his unique poetry. Ultimately, we’ll discuss his legacy and lasting impact on Persian and world literature.

6 Attar of Nishapur Poems: the Persian Poetry of Attar

Attar’s Life and Background

Attar of Nishapur was born in Nishapur, Iran, during the late 12th century. Little is known about his life, and even his given name remains obscure. Attar, of course, wasn’t his real name but rather a cognomen or “nickname” derived from his original profession as an herbalist or perfumer (in Farsi, an attar is a kind of herbalist or a seller of medicinal herbs. The word itself is rooted in atr, an Arabic word meaning perfume).

There are a few stories about how the poet became a Sufi from his original profession as an herbalist. None, however, are reliable. However, it happened, the Attar we know was a Sufi, an adherent to a mystic Islamic movement that emphasized personal spiritual growth. Attar’s poetry often mirrors this philosophy and strives for spiritual enlightenment.

Attar’s life was tragically cut short when the Mongol army invaded in the early 13th century, leading to his execution. Despite his tragic demise, Attar’s legacy lived on through his poetry and writings, which continue to inspire readers and scholars today.

Attar’s Literary Style and Contributions

Attar’s writing is distinguished by the vivid imagery, metaphor, and allegory it employs to convey complex spiritual and philosophical ideas. He often drew upon stories and legends from Persian and Islamic folklore, weaving them into his poetry to create a rich tapestry of meaning beyond what could be read directly in the text itself.

Attar’s own works, such as “The Conference of the Birds,” demonstrated how powerfully the masnavi form could convey complex spiritual and philosophical ideas through allegory and metaphor.

He is known for using animal fables in his works, as elegantly presented in “The Conference.” This attribute had a large impact on famous Persian poets coming after him, like Rumi or Saadi. Through Attar’s literary works, we can also see the cultural and intellectual spirit of his time. The “Islamic Golden Age” was a time of scientific and artistic progress. There are a great number of Persian, Arabic, and Greek figures contributing to the arts and sciences in this golden age.

He also contributed to the lasting influence of the Iranian-Islamic Sufi tradition by penning the major hagiographic prose work, Tazkirat al-Awliya (meaning, literally, the remembrance of great spiritual personages).

His contributions to Persian poetry are still prominent today, and he remains an important part of a time looked back at with great admiration by many Persian speakers today.

The Works of Attar of Nishapur

Attar of Nishapur is renowned for his diverse literary works, both poetry and prose. Some of his most renowned pieces include:

“The Conference of the Birds” (Mantiq al-Tayr,

Considered Attar’s masterpiece, this epic poem follows a group of birds on their quest to find the legendary Simurgh bird. Along the way, they face various hardships that test their faith and resolve as they strive to overcome each obstacle. Finally, only thirty birds (literally si morgh) remain, who at length realize in their union, they make up the legendary Simurgh (a play on homonyms where the proper name Simurgh sounds like the words denoting “thirty birds”)

“The Book of Secrets” (Asrar-nama,

Attar’s collection of prose writings on Sufism and spirituality, “The Book of Secrets,” delves into topics such as love, self-knowledge, and the pursuit of spiritual enlightenment.

“The Divan” (دیوان)

His poetry collection, the Divan of Attar contains the poet’s couplets. It deals with subjects ranging from love to Sufism and theology.

“The Hagiography” (Tazkerat al-Awliya,

Attar’s Hagiography or the Tazakarat al-Awliya work chronicles the life and teachings of Sufi saint Sheikh San’an and is considered one of Attar’s most significant works of prose. It enabled the Sufi tradition to reach a much wider audience, a task it still performs today.

“The Book of Affliction” (Elahi-nameh,

This work of prose delves into the concept of divine punishment and suffering, providing insights into how one can find meaning and purpose when faced with hardship.

Attar’s works remain widely read and studied by scholars around the globe, his legacy as a poet and mystic having had an immense impact on Persian literature and culture.

The joy of my life

When you're coming back,

When you are not coming back,

When questions are going to be mixed like that,

Im mixed inside as well like that.

Thats how you've became the joy of my life to be.

And thats how I've turned from You the joy of my life to be.

When you feel it,

When I play it.

When I want it,

When you let it.

Be my joy,

Be my spirit.

The hearts temptation

The spirit of my games,

The powers of my path

The light of my ways,

Thats how,thats how,

Thats how Ive made from you

the joy of my life to be.

When I want to have a plan,

Your drawing it from A to Z to be to me,

For me to play it in an easy way,

For you to read it with in a simple way,

When I want to play cards with you,

You're  guessing mines,

Imma drawing the steps of yours,

For me to read it in an easy way,

For you to understand my heart in a simple way,

Thats how you've turned into the joy of my life to be.

Be the joy,and a spirit

Fill with colors, fill with the will,

Thats your power, and thats my wish,

Be my joy,I'll be your spirit,

We'll run away on the horses,

We'll fly away through the fields,

Your my joy,and my muse,

When i fill it thats how I feel it.

Play my game with your colors,

Play my way with your signs,

Lemme hear the voice of yours,

Through the screaming that your my spirit,

And thats how I feel it,and thats how I want it,

And thats how I've turned from You the joy of my life to be.

When you feel it,

When I play it.

When I want it,

When you let it.

Be my joy,

Be my spirit.

The wine of my life

 The room is half empty

when there is one person standing,

there or half full,

when you are looking for  someone to fill it with,

sometimes is a way of life,

sometimes you have to changei it  according to your path,

but if it is half empty,

then wine is your friend,

and the wind is you blanket.

The wind sometimes blows from nowhenre,

according to the style and  the low of my life,

But when  you play with the wind by yourself,

and with the wine in your hands and the drops on your body,

and create your own style of love, and the life,

the drops of wine drips

the wine turns into it,

and your life falls on it,

thus your feeling the room,so

that when the room is half empty,

it becomes halfly fool.

When the soul it burning in fire,

and water does not help,

how can wine set fire,

when it itself has already set you on fire.

and there is a dress in white,

which plays with the wine,

it turnes into red to be ,

when the wine the wine starts to  feel the room.

and its not half empty ,

when theres a person nearby who is standing in there anymore.

The dream of my heart

 I was always dreaming,

about someone like you,

equal to my soul,

I was always dreaming,

about someone who will touch

to my soul,

when you are touching,

it is aching inside.

         ***

My soul

Meant nothing to me,

my soyl

meant flower only to life,

but when life turned into the flower to be,to me

my soul turned mine to be,to me

i was always dreaming

about someone like you.

          ***

I've made one decision,

to always  have dreams,

when inside of my fantasies,

there are only illusion, but not reality,

I think it's not a life,

But a dream.

when i've found you once again

dreams gone, i was alwys dreaming,

about someone like you.

              ***

Coffee in the mornings,

mine is darker,

Yours with sugar,

just like what you do,

love in the real life,

thats just like what I do,

love in my current life,

I was always dreaming about someone like you.

My soul

Meant nothing to me,

my soyl

meant flower only to life,

but when life turned into the flower to be,to me

my soul turned mine to be,to me.

when you are touching,

it is aching inside.

thats just like what I do,

that's just like what i like.
